About Me
I am constantly taking photos of the sky, the changing clouds I am drawn to the colours and shapes. I'm inspired by how the light catches and changes the shapes all the time. Even watching telly I can see a sky that grabs my attention and I lose focus on the programme and start dreaming of how I will or could interpret it.
When I am painting I try not to get too worried about the initial laying down of colour as I work into the colour and shapes and with each brushstroke it develops and changes pretty much as the sky does. sometimes what feels like a mistake: drips, runs, splodges turn into something special and makes each piece really unique.
I can get lost in the process of painting and the direction changes all the time ... time disappears. It is truly when I am at my happiest ( apart from being with my kids and partner - obvs!)
My Inspiration
Growing up in South Africa on the coast definitely has had an integral effect on the theme of many of my paintings. I had a huge collection of shells that I collected as a child which I've carried around with me for 30 odd years.
I studied art to A Levels and quite honestly that outlet was what got me through. I also did business economics and we had to create a business for a country wide competition - my thoughts immediately went to the creative side and I created an actually going concern of decorating and covering brown school cases in collage and paint to sell - which I did, they were a great success and meant that I came 6th in country - sadly the only thing I won was a hair dryer but it felt good to blend my art into something else.
